Leonard Peltier, an Oglala, living in Milwaukee was one of many Native Americans who in 1975 made the pilgrimage to the Pine Ridge reservation to assist his brothers and sisters. Tensions were still high on the reservation. FBI Special Agents pursuing another suspect engaged in a shootout with tribe members where Native American Joe Stuntz was killed. Agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams were also killed though it was never proved beyond a reasonable doubt who was responsible. (Democracy Now, 12/2000; Leonard Peltier Prison Writings, N.Y.
