Presiding Ladies of the White House

we present images not of Washington and Lincoln, or even of any of the presidents, but rather the Presiding Ladies of the White House, a biographical album by Lila G. A. Woolfall, with an introduction by noted author and editor Margaret Elizabeth Sangster, published in 1903 by the Bureau of National Literature and Art in Washington, DC. We decided to focus on women related to presidents who aren’t so commonly discussed. It’s a bit surprising today some of the details Woolfall felt important to include, but overall, it’s a pleasurable and informative read.. From top to bottom, they are:
